Schoolcanes.com is a one-person craft workshop founded around a simple idea: that a handcrafted rattan cane deserves the same care and attention that goes into any fine handmade object. I've been crafting rattan canes for close to three years, and every piece is still made by hand, one at a time.
Because nothing is mass produced, each cane gets individual attention — from the initial grading of the rattan to the final finish. My canes are constructed of premium-grade Indonesian Kooboo rattan. The diameter is carefully determined and chosen for each individual cane, based on the cane's intended length. Each is carefully shaped, with sharp edges removed, and finished with boiled linseed oil. This helps the rattan maintain its natural flexibility while sealing it for easy cleaning. I leave the rattan skin (bark) on to preserve its natural beauty.
